Gummy Johnston
Gummy Johnston has owned and operated Thanks Tattoo since its inception .
His work leans heavily into the classic Western style of tattooing performed before the World Wars, throughout Europe and America. Deeply influenced by early 20th-century tattoo traditions, Gummy draws inspiration from the foundations laid by the legendary tattooers who shaped the craft.
With a strong passion for tattoo history, he remains committed to the design aesthetics, structure, and integrity of traditional tattooing, producing work that honours the past while standing solid in the present.
Goatlumps
Goatlumps (Nina) has worked with Thanks Tattoo since the early days. First as a guest artist, before relocating to Sydney from Melbourne and becoming one of the shop’s longest-standing and most respected colleagues.
Her tattoos stand firmly on their own. With strong illustrative qualities and confident composition, her work is bold, well considered, and balanced, detailed without being overworked. Every piece is designed with clarity and intention, always meeting the client’s needs while maintaining the integrity of the tattoo itself.
Goatlumps strives to ensure every client feels comfortable throughout the process. She excels in both the design and application of her tattoos, working with a solid foundation and deep respect for the traditions of tattooing.
Tom Payne
Tom Payne is a Sydney born artist whose interest in tattooing started at a young age. He cut his teeth in the Sydney tattoo scene, working in some of the city’s foundation shops before becoming a fixture at Thanks Tattoo.
A versatile tattooer across many styles, Tom’s heart sits firmly in lowbrow inspired work, mashing skate and punk aesthetics into solid tattoos. His work carries strong energy, movement, and colour, with a clear love for dynamic design.
Tom is always down to bring your ideas to life. Whether it’s your concept or his, you can trust he’ll put his best into every piece, no matter the image or style.
Dean Olling
Dean Olling is a strong, self-proclaimed street shop artist . He is versatile, capable, and built for the pace of a working tattoo studio. From bold traditional pieces to the finest linework, Dean is more than qualified to take on the job.
Working days and late nights, he makes himself available to ensure you can get a high-quality tattoo applied with the utmost care. His approach is straightforward and professional , solid design, clean application, no fuss.
Whether you come in with your own design or need help conceiving an idea, Dean is up for it. Reliable, adaptable, and always ready to work, he brings consistency and dedication to every tattoo done at Thanks Tattoo.
Malfunction
Malfunction (Liam) works part-time at Thanks Tattoo, tattooing one day a week on Sundays.
A strong and capable tattooer, he moves comfortably between fine detail and bold work. His style is distinctive and recognisable, yet he’s just as happy taking on walk-in tattoos of any kind.
Whether it’s something detailed and considered, or a straightforward piece, Malfunction brings skill, consistency, and confidence to every tattoo he does.
